Rev. Allen Latimore, his wife Cathy, daughter Kristin and James have been with us since June of 2004. They came to us from Rochester, New Hampshire, where they had lived for the past 5 years. Previously, for the past 10 plus years Pastor Allen has been involved in youth ministry. He has served in this capacity in our sister Advent Christian Churches in Oxford, Massachusetts, Rochester and Dover, NH.
Pastor Allen was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and was brought up in the Worcester Advent Christian Church, which is now the Oak Hill Bible Church in Oxford, Massachusetts. He credits his parents for bringing him and his siblings up in the Christian faith. Pastor Allen's brother Ken is pastor at the Aurora Advent Christian Church in Aurora, Illinois. Ken was actually Pastor Allen's youth pastor and feels he learned a lot about ministry from his brother. Pastor Allen's sister Darlene and her husband Bob, who are very much involved in worship at a Vineyard Church in Framingham, Massachusetts, taught him a lot about worship.
Pastor Allen graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts and it is here that he met Cathy on a blind date. They fell in love, were married and now Cathy is an integral part of his ministry specializing in the behind the scenes activities.
Pastor Allen would sum up his ministry philosophy in two words, "build relationships." He believes everything in ministry must begin here for it to be effective. A verse that Pastor Allen hopes will describe his ministry is 1 Thessalonians 2:8: "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.” Pastor Allen and Cathy want to share their lives with this church, and in turn hope the people here will share their lives with them. In the process they believe they will best be able to minister to the people here at the Torrington Advent Christian Church.
