Our history
The church now known as the Torrington Advent Christian Church began way back in 1886. Back then there were about 8 original members and now almost 140 years later the church is still proclaiming the Gospel.
The first owned building is the one pictured to the left which was on Barber Street in Torrington. Then in the 1960s property was purchased on New Harwinton Road where the present church is. At that time the building which is our parsonage today was where the present church now sits. The parsonage was moved to Crestwood Road and work on the new building was began.
Our Beliefs
There is one phrase that sums up our theology: "Life only in Christ." We would point to scriptures such as John 14:6 where Jesus Himself says, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Or in Acts 4:12 where talking about Jesus we read: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." We also believe the quote that tells us that "we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed in Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone."
We also hold that the Bible is our only rule for faith and practice. This means that we hold the Bible, God's Holy Bible, to be our ultimate guide for what we believe and what we do. We would point to what we read in 2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
